Bridges Nachtegalen Park Antwerp
Project Description:
The three parks Vogelzang, Middelheim and Den Brandt make up the Nachtegalen Park.
Three bridges in this park were in dire need of restoration, specifically:
– Cast iron bridge (south) over castle moat, park Den Brandt
– Spherical bridge behind castle, park Den Brandt
– Bridge “Melkerij”, park Vogelzang
Commissioned by PIT NV (Eiffage group) and executed for the City of Antwerp, under the supervision of Origin Architecture & Engineering.
The cast iron bridge over the castle moat received a complete restoration and a new bridge deck. The spherical bridge behind the castle was partially treated on site. The support beams were treated in situ, however, the breastworks were disassembled and restored in the workshop before being reassembled. We also installed new wooden planks, with a stainless steel grip riser. Finally, the bridge “Melkerij” was handled entirely locally. The wood was temporarily disassembled, the metalwork was treated and the wooden surface put back in place.
